I would like very much to have input from people here who have experiences with these three to say what they like or dislike about them, which they feel is best for anxiety, ruminating thoughts and insomnia. Thanks everyone!

> -JanelleOf the three, I have not tried Geodon. But some have said it isn't very good for sleep. My personal vote would be for Zyprexa. I don't think there is any one perfect drug, but of the three you mentioned I think Zyprexa is the best of the bunch. Sometimes patients do better with Risperdal, especially if weight gain or sedation have been problems. But even so, I think more people end up doing better with Zyprexa than anything else.

I havent tried zyprexa, nor respirdal, but I have spoken to my pdoc concerning the difference between Geodon (which I am taking) and zyprexa... As far as he is concerned, and mind you he could be on the pfizer payroll, he considers Geodon to be a better drug with fewer side effects...There is no weight gain on Geodon, and after I got used to it, I do find it mildly sedating at night... It doesnt seem to interfere with my daily life, and in fact has vastly balanced out my rocky emotions... As far as Geodon is concerned, I can say that much at least...

You said about Geodon "after I got used to it ..." -what do you mean by after you GOT USED TO IT? Did you have some initial side effects? If so, what were they? Thanks!

Janelle,
I just saw my pdoc yesterday and told him the I stopped taking Geodon and returned to Zyprexa. He said that he had many patients that had the same reaction as me - increased anxietyy and disturbed sleep patterns. I usually get a good nights sleep with Zyprexa although I am still waiting for the Geodon to wash out.
Risperdol made me feel like a zombie with no emotions whatsoever. IMHO Zyprexa is the best of the 3 you are considering.

Well, its really hard to say, in fact there may be no initial side effects... I started effexor at the same time that I started Geodon so it was difficult for me to tell if the Geodon was causing any noticable side effects at all...
I dont anticipate that you should have problems w/ it, I think my side effects were caused primarily by the effexor, so I didnt really notice any sedation from the Geodon until after I became comfortable w/ the effexor... Its quite possible that the Geodon taken *with* the effexor caused some unwanted side effects, but its difficult for me to say for sure.
Hope this helps.

Risperdal is a welcome and effective augmentation to my cocktail, for me. It is clear that different people have very different responses to it.
This is the end of the thread.
