Is it gaining resitence? EFFEXOR

Posted by Poppy on August 29, 2001, at 7:23:31

I increased my effexor after it ceased to work, After it was increased to 375mg I became so much better, but after 3 weeks Im going down again, and getting head dizzy things lke youi get if you forgot to take effexor. Am I gaining a resitence to it? If so what do I do continue to increase it, isnt there a level where it should not be increased anymore? or are there different drugs that might work, its just that I got so much better after a long tiring hellish time, I just want to go back
thanks

I am not sure, but my Doc said that the MAX that she will prescribe (in most cases) is 400mg.

Hi..

Perhaps you are a fast metabolizer, or elimenated the efexor very rapidly. I know that on can go as high as 600mg, in refractary cases. But why not combo it with Remeron. This is often a very successfully combo. It will also improve the often sexuall side effect you get from high efexor dosage.

Good luck...

Petter.

I second the Remeron suggestion.

Every time effexor poops out I simply increase the dose. I am now up to 450mg.

The only side effects that I experience are insonmia (which trazadone takes care of), constipation (take a drug for that to) and a diminished appetite (for which I take L-tryptophan).

The higher I go with effexor the more I find my emotions are blunted. The emotional blunt is great for me since I have borderline personality disorder, which is an emotional disorder.

In borderline cases, effexor is pushed up to 600mg so I can still increase the dose a couple more times.

One pdoc wrote that he though high doses of effexor + remeron was in his opinion "the big gun" for treatment resistant and severe cases of depression. He even compared the combo to ECT.

So, as you have read, you have many choices.

Good luck!
