I have recently come off Effexor and have gotten on Wellbutrin. I wanted to regain some libido which was all but totally diminished. I have felt so much better than on effexor. I was too numb and detached.
I am also on hormone therapy with tetosterone added. In one week, I am feeling very "frisky" again. smile
I gained weight on the effexor...does anyone have any experience with wellbutrin....will I lose the weight that I put on? Any input on Wellbutrin would be appreciated.

Hi. I lost about 6 lbs. the first three wks on Wellb. Also more energy & focus. I am on a relatively low dose of 150mg Wellb SR in the a.m. Still waiting for AD fx to kick in (hopefully in the next few wks) Good luck

i have found wellbutrin to also not leave me feeling numb and detached. i have felt that on other meds and i agree that it is not desirable.

don't know if this helps. i'm fairly low dose myself (75x3=225mg) and noticed it took probably 3 months (not to discourage you) before i noticed the AD action to kick in. it just did all of a sudden, i remember noticing. i was pretty happy without it doing anything AD-wise because it helped me get going and do my stuff. then it was a pleasant surprise when the calming/AD affect hit. wanted to let you know it might take a little time, but it does eventually happen. for me it was a gentle calming without feeling doped up and numbed out. -terra

there is another thread on this same subject going on that might be useful (sorry, don't know to reference it here!). wb has affected my libido mostly in a negative way (although also in a different, positive way. . . cant say much more than that. ..) and it also affected my appetite - for the 2 months i've been taking it i've had decreased appetite and sugar cravings, with some periods of having to force myself to eat. i've lost 5-8 pounds in two months, which is not really a good thing for me (although i'm happier with losing than gaining!). i felt the effects of wb immediately - like day 2 - although mostly it was an increased energy/motivation/drive. i feel emotionally better, too, but i'm not sure how much of that has to do with the increased energy. . . either way, i'm happy with the change.

I have been on WB at differing doses since June of 1999. I have lost more than 30 lbs. and have gone from a tight size 18 pair of jeans to a loose size 14 pair made by the same manufacturer. Currently I am taking 150mg t.i.d. I took 200 t.i.d. for a long while before that.
Good luck.

I have also lost weight on Wellbutrin -- it greatly diminishes my appetite. Hope it works the same for you!

Wow, there are so many threads going right now on my favorite drug - the WB.
I have fared really well on it (300 mg total per day). I noticed the change as soon as I tapered off the Effexor (ugh, shudder), and ramped up to the full dose of WB I'm on now. Pretty much right away. Much more energy, really could get even HAPPY at times (wow), and no side effects except I lost 30 lbs in about 10 weeks. (I had gained at least that much from several years on Zoloft.) I just didn't feel like eating. I think the WB combined with the mood I was in (grief), worked to do it. Other people gain on WB, and have bad side effects. So it's something to be aware of.
Best of luck finding the wonder-drug, jip!Wendy
