Has anyone had problems with learning new work or school-related tasks or remembering things while on Effexor? If so, is there a way to get around this problem while remaining on the medication? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hello,
From my personal experience...I have been on Effexor XR for about 7 months. I take 225mg. I also take Wellbutrin SR 100mg to augment sexual side effects of the Effexor.
Anyway...I am in my 2nd year of nursing school and have managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA. In fact, right before I decided to go to the doctor about my feelings of anxiety and depression, I had problems concentrating on my work. Now I am able to pay attention and concentrate so that the information sinks in. I am also able to retrieve the info quickly as well. ( I am a nursing student majoring in mental health and psychiatry.)
Everyones chemistry is different. Sometimes I will lay my car keys down and forget where I put them. But I did this before starting Effexor.Debbie

I had similar problems on Serzone. It was unbearable. My short term memory was useless and I felt like my IQ had dropped about 30 points. Oh yeah, and I did have the "word finding" problem too, which made me sound as stupid as I felt ;-) For these reasons I had to quit the Serzone.
