Hang in there! You're doing great. You're doing it right. Though most people would tell you to give it at least 6 weeks, I like to see some kind of hint of improvement within two weeks. With that in mind, keep an eye out for some hints of improvement in the next 10 days or so. If still nothing after two weeks, I would be a little concerned but I would also stick with it longer. If after 4 weeks still nothing I would be planning my next drug, but stick with it a little longer. If after 6 weeks still nothing, I would quickly switch to something else without any hesitation. If you have not tried Prozac, that would be a top contender in my opinion.

I was on Effexor a long time ago and it took "forever" to kick in--more than two weeks to even begin to feel an effect. It made me feel awful at first actually. But at about 4 weeks, I was very happy I stuck with it. It worked for 2 years--then I went off of it because of weight gain (you might want to consider a low carb approach if this is a concern to you) and sexual dysfunction.

If you are serious about giving it your bests shot, I would stick it out at least until you reach what would typically be a therapeudic dosage level (150mg)... Then... after a months time at that dosage if you don't see results then switch.I'm not saying that you wont have results sooner than 150, you well may, but if you dont I would at least be patient until you get to 150, then try that dosage level for a little while.
I'm at 75mg right now, cant say I'm feeling anything from it yet, been on FXR for about 6 weeks or so, with a lot of time spent on 37.5 due to some mitigating factors in my life at the time... So, My doctor has me on 75mg for the next 4 weeks, then I'll probably go up another 37.5...
Everyone is different so my timetable for dosage increase shouldnt be used as a measurement for your own... increase at your own pace, and again, give it a little time to do its thing.
good luck.

could take 3 weeks could take two, I was on 180mg before I even felt anything really, then after 1.5 years, it wore off somehow now I am on 375mg and that took maybe 4-8 weeks before I noticed a change, so handg in there and good luck.

As my doctor told me when I first started on Effexor, it's not an aspirin. You're not going to take it and have it suddenly make things better. I think it took about 2 weeks for me. I eventually went on higher doses over time, but doseage is individual and different levels work for different people. Hang in there, things will get better!

The www.effexor.com website (owned by Wyeth-Ayerst) provides a great deal of information with graphs and everything. This is the page that shows the response rate vs time graph:
http://www.effexor.com/professional/overview/remission_depression.htmThe succes rate increases sharply after 4 weeks and is very high after 8 weeks.

I felt better within days.....My doctor and I feel that since I have had such a quick response that the need to increase my dose of 75 mgs at bedtime will not be necessary. My doctor did prescribe phenergan for nausea. It helps out, but it also make me sleepy. Hang in there!
