Has anybody out there tried Zonegran (zonisamide) as a mood stabilizer? It and Lamictal are the last two that I haven't tried yet. My pdoc suggested it a few months ago. I read the monograph on it and I was a little scared about the possible cognitive and schizophreniform effects (thinking abnormal). The last thing I need is cognitive dulling and abnormal thinking! My pdoc said that it facilitates serotonin and dopamine transmission and it might allow me to go off AD's-which would be nice.
Any experiences with it would be welcome..

Mitch, Have you already tried Neurontin? It's very mild. . .

Mitch.
I'd go for the lamictal. I took it; you have to start slowly because of possible serious rash, but literally had no side effects. I did gain weight (which I lost immediately after going off it), but that is not a common side effect for lamictal. In my case it was probably fluid retention which I had on neurotin also. I think it's really easy to tolerate and it's becoming very popular as a mood stabilizer.

Zo,
Already taking it! 400mg/day. I just can't tolerate higher doses and we were thinking about trying something new (I am only partialy responding to Neurontin).

You probably know this, but there's lots of posts on here mentioning Neurontin in combination with Lamactil and others. . .
Good luck,
