I know this question has been asked and answered before but I need a fresh perspective being without pdoc now.
What is the best med for constant, nagging anxiety? I do have panic attacks but they are less frequent now but there is always a lingering shakiness and anxiety all the time. It never abates and I'm wondering what I can do about it?
any ideas?
thanks

An SSRI- Zoloft or Prozac and CBT therapy. I have also found Klonopin to be a very good benzo for long-term anxiety.

I do take klonopin but as little as possible because I know it's addicting. I have a serious intolerance to SSRI's, I've tried several and get the same nasty side effects. I was wondering about MAOI's?
thanks for the reply though. I appreciate your thoughts.

> tinaTina: Xanax has taken away 95% of my anxiety, but..the addiction potential is extremely high. I would try something else other than benzodiazepines. I have been on Xanax for 14 years. When I can no longer find a doctor to prescribe it for me, or worse, my liver gets damaged beyond repair, I will probably have to enter drug rehab. I have never tried anything else for anxiety that worked.

Hi Tina,
I almost believe that the anxiety is the 'residue' from panic attacks....... the left-over after-effects so to speak.I was on a low-dose of ZOLOFT for PANIC/ANXIETY attacks...... they had minimal side-effects..... which lasted under two weeks.....slight nausea.........for me anyway.........
CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT .....PDOC .......stands for !!!
Self-talk is the NEXT STEP !...... have you had treatment with a CLINICAL PYSCHOLOGIST ....they specialise in COGNITIVE THERAPY..... re-train your way of thinking and behaving......and teach you the CORRECT WAY to BREATHE........believe it or not.......learning breathing techniques can get rid of feelings of anxiety.......I actually believe that you are quite lucky to be at this stage...... sort of past the PANIC stage......so hang in there..........they don't prescribe medication.....but may suggest seeing a doctor if they feel it's necessary........
THIS IS NOT DANGEROUS
I HAVE FELT LIKE THIS BEFORE
IT WILL PASS
I AM NOT DYING
I AM NOT HAVING A HEART ATTACK
THIS WILL PASSIt's this breaking up the CYCLE of OBSESSIVE thinking that can get rid of the sick feeling in your stomach.......like going into an the most important exam in your life and knowing that you haven't studied for it !!!

I'm not passed the panic stage. I've had panic attacks since i was 18 and they never go away. They may become less frequent but never truly go away. It's the GAD that is killing me. It's constant nervousness. Hands shake and stomach rolls and just general continuous ick. I am afraid of going anywhere, ever.
It's screwing up my quality of life, that's for sure.

Yes, I can totally relate, I am appear to be seeing only small(~15%) improvement in my situation. My situation is basically mirrored by the OBssessive thinking which can make my stomach feel that way as well, constant anxiety. I don't know if mine is related to my growing up as in, a short tempered father and my mother taking his non-sense just for her children. I should also mention, I am 20 right now and he says, "clean your room" or I will give you a slap." Hmm, how comforting. I mean it's verbal abuse since day 1 but, I don't know if I can blame that or not. My situation is like a "post traumatic" anxiety+OCD disorder, always wondering what is going to happen next, if you know what I mean.

*********************************************I've been reading this thread with interest. I just bought the book Mind over Mood which focuses on Cognitive Therapy. Would you mind sharing the title of the book you are talking about online? (I think others would appreciate it as well). I would appreciate a copy of your notes as well (lbj90068@yahoo.com) if it is not too much trouble. Dealing with these issues is a struggle. We need all the tools we can get.
