Is anyone on Wellbutrin for anxiety?

Posted by Moore on June 27, 2001, at 22:49:30

If anyone is on Wellbutrin for anxiety, how long until anxious side effects are gone? What can I take at night with it to sleep? And does it cause acne? Thanks

Wellbutrin for anxiety??? That's weird. What type of anxiety are we talking about here?

If you have anxiety but want to try Wellbutrin, I recommend using Wellbutrin SR. Ambien, trazodone, or possibly a tricyclic like doxepin or imipramine, would be a good choice for sleep.

It may sound strange, but my rx for Wellbutrin is for panic disorder - most SSRIs and even the occasional xanax (which is nice to have on hand) made me so DAMN tired.

I'll try my best to explain my experience - Wellbutrin seems to help me "challenge my perceptions" which, would often be the point where a panic attack could appear from no where. For example, my attacks got so frequent that they were beginning to be set off by things like a light dimming in a classroom, or a motion in the background. For some reason, this med helps me analyze those silly occurances that used to make me REALLY anxious and send me into a panic attack. Wellbutrin also seems to act as a mild stimulant for me, which is a bonus. My anxiety used to always be heightened during periods of the day where I was "wearing down." Another bonus is that it has a mild effect on issues of ADD.

We are all so chemically different! I'm on wellbutrin for PTSD/anxiety. I have to take the immediate release because I metabolize it too quickly (the SR doesn't act like SR). I've tried SSRI's, effexor & serzone. After the initial breakin, the sideeffects of the wellbutrin-induced anxiety went away.

For me, the wellbutrin puts me in control. I still battle with the irritability and anxiety and have to use ativan daily. I'm not at a perfect chemical level, but I'm at the best level so far.

The wellbutrin is helping me "stay the course" in what's been an exhausting mental healing journey. At times I even feel relatively normal! (grin) So that's why I take it. I use ambien at bedtime when necessary and also recommend trazadone as well.
