EFFEXOR and sexual side effects

Posted by marmalade on June 26, 2001, at 15:23:56

My Psychiatrist gave me samples of Effexor and one of the reasons I'm wary of taking them is because of the possible side effects that can occur sexually. Can anyone help me with this? Have you noticed any difference? I'm only 25 and don't like the idea of um, killing off Mr. Mojo.

Hi,
I'm a female, 23. I take Effexor XR 300 mg 1/day. Everything has been fine sexually (although I haven't "tested" everything out lately). I still have the sex drive as before, only now, after being on it for 3 months, I now have an incredible libido. Sex is on my mind ALL the time. Anyway, here is an insider tip: if you want to get in the stock market, I'd buy lots of stock in Duracell or Energizer. Ha ha. I guess too much sex drive is better than none at all?? There is hope...Mr. Mojo will hopefully be fine.

I take Effexor Xr 225mg per day. I have incredible libido, BUT cannot acheive orgasm...UUUGGGHHH! Very frustrating. As my pdoc said, I have equipment failure. ;) We are presently in the process of trying to overcome this. I think it is different for everyone!

We---My doctor and me. He has added Celexa, then eventually I will wean down on the Effexor. Personally, I do not like this combo, I have been on Celexa before. I want to add Wellbutrin, what do you think?

of the sexual thing, which does affect us. My doctor just laughed and said enjoy it. :(-

If the effexor is doing its job I wouldn't want to change it. I think you are on the right line. It has taken me five years, plus previous attempts, to find the right med. I drive my blood pressure up panicking that the doctor will take it away.

Ask a pharmascist about it. They usually know this stuff better, just my experience.

Let us know how it goes. If you find a fix, I'll try it.
