I started taking Effexor XR 5 months ago, starting at 75mg then going up to 150 mg/day. As my doctor requested I went down to 75 mg. Things were going pretty well. I don't like the idea of depending on drugs, so I deceided to start coming off them. I went to one pill every second day, and the withdrawl effects were VERY intense.
I've been totally off the pills for almost 7 weeks now, and still find myself having the lightheadedness, confusion, being tired, moody,distant...
Has anyone else gone through this? Will it stop? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I was soooo happy to find this site, I felt as if I was the only one with questions/prolems with this medication.
Thanks.

Effexor withdrawal has been very intense for a lot of people here. . .Which doesn't really relate to whether it's an effective AD. I think you'll find most people who've had a relapse or two don't see continued use as a "dependency" on a med, but rather. . I use the analogy of being a mental diabetic, and these are the chemicals my brain needs supplemented, and why resist that? It needs what it needs.

Were any of these symptoms you had before? The Effexor dose you were on was not really up to AD level. . .could the depression be returning? Effexor may or may not be the med for you. . .But doesn't sound like it was administered well. Get a second opinion?
