Anyone on Depakote? The insert in the package I got scared the heck out of me - damage to liver, hair loss, etc. And is it very sedating? I was given it for anxiety, but wonder if that's really what it's for?

Janelle, my dear, you have a lovely name, but "what's in a name?"DEPAKOTE: Whoever thought up that name should be dipped in honey then thrown in a bear cave! It's just a lousy name which made me hesitant, too, about it, but don't let the name stop you from trying it. When used within the proper perspective, it supposedly works. But do have a full liver function test periodically. And, by all means, if you should turn a ghastly yellow, run to your nearest ER.
On second thought: you might want the liver function test prior DEPAKOTE to test for HCV, which is at epidemic levels these days. I know. I have it. http://www.hep-c-alert.org/index.html

You might want to try the new ER formulation of Depakote, which promises less side-effects overall and once-a-day dosing schedule.
