Hi
Here's the deal: Been in therapy 3 years. Been on variety of meds for I guess 2 years now. Everybody (medical-type) says, "just stress." What do YOU think? Being female makes it worse, you know. I'm treating it as an annoyance to cover my real feelings (fear of looking disasterous!).
Do you think it's stress, or drugs?
I've taken effexor xr (5wk), zoloft (3wk), serzone (good amount of time), and current: ativan (2 yrs), ambien (6mo) and wellbutrin ir 300mg.
Thanks for the input. Terra

A friend of mine (no, it really is) had massive amounts of hair. I'm a beautician and do her hair so I know that she did. Just this past week I noticed she went from a full head of hair to very thin hair. Wellbutrin is what she is on.

> Thanks for the input. TerraMy friend who is on Prozac, terazadone and one of those patches for menopause lost hair too. My friends and I had thought it was because she also became obessesed with weight loss and lost alot of weight in a very short time. She didn't exercise, did more of a 'starvation' thing. She has been putting a bit of weight back on in the last six months(she says it's due to stress, and is very upset about it..we are all overjoyed as she looks much healthier!) and her hair seems to have started to come back a little bit...sooo..I guess this doesn't really answer your question...but I just thought I would add this.

I'm losing my hair and I have no idea what to do about it--has it gotten better for you? What have you done?

Hair loss, especially in a woman, is a symptom of hypothyroidism. Other symptoms of a thyroid problem include depression, fatigue, feeling cold, menstrual problems, infertility, elevated cholesterol, etc. If you think this might be your problem, insist on a thyroid panel test including a thyroid antibody test. Don't settle for just TSH thyroid test most doctors want to give you. It's a good diagnostic test but it is NOT the only thyroid test that should be used.

Hi Terra,
Dr. Bob has some information on medication associated hair loss in Psycho-Babble Tips at http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Hair-loss-with-medication.html. There are some suggestions in there about using zinc and selenium to reverse it.

My hair started coming out this week - not from either stress or drugs, but from Lupus, so if you have any other symptoms - extreme fatigue, rashes, joint pain - get to a doctor who knows about Lupus (beware: many genereal practitioners don't!).
I totally know what you mean about the feelings -
I was so upset about it, even though I'm not really into fashion or appearance - I cried for days! Your hair is a big part of your identity. Since my period has also stopped, I feel like I'm less of a woman.

Fem,it's at a fair standstill it seems. no better. sometimes worse. very thin and dry. i have no other indications that it is thyroid related and have had that checked in the past. i've read bunches from others on wellbutrin who swear that's what's doing it. but i'm not about to trade in the wellbutrin. stress hasn't exactly let up any. i do notice more hairs in the sink the greater the stress personally has been upped. long answer to say that i don't have much of an answer. :-) terra

I started on zoloft, and started losing my hair. I got really stressed about it & posted on here. Some people replied & said it was just my body reacting to the med & it would settle down. After three months, it did settle with the meds & the hair loss stopped. I don't know what is happening for you, but thought I would share my story. (and maybe give you some hope).

I've been on the Sarafem (Prozac) for 5 months and it just started happening...I'm torn if I should stop or continue...my pdoc says to stop and see what happens, I guess that's what I'm going to do, thank you all for the response!

Fem,
Perhaps you should do what you feel is best. If you can handle the hair loss, and the med is helping you, then perhaps you should stay on it. On the other hand, if you have one side effect you may get more. ??? I'm really sorry I can't help you with this one.
Best of luck,

you know, i've dealt with it by telling myself that if i went off my meds i would be feeling WAY worse than if i stay where i am stable. so now i choose to be stable, because being unstable is TOTALLY the pits. but i have a huge part in my hair and a way thin hairline. it's really kind of sad. but i need my meds. so i live with going bald. i don't like it, but it's better than the alternative by far.... i'd rather be bald than insane. not that i like going bald either....... grrrrr. lov, terra
