Effexor Xr Withdrawl + the effects of drinking

Posted by Basick on May 31, 2001, at 21:42:54

I just stopped taking this med 4 days ago.
I felt fine until yesterday. I can't walk straight
I have electrical pulses shooting through my body. My
anxiety is blown back into force. My thoughts are clouded
I have the sweats and the shakes.
I heard this will take a week or two to cool off.
I was taking the med's for Panic disorder in the
1st place.

For drinking and Effexor: I had no problem drinking on
it. Except, you will have a killer hang-over.
PEACE and GOOD LUCK

Here's a copy of the email I sent someone who requested advice in getting off Effexor. Patience is key!!

DO NOT JUST STOP TAKING IT.

You need to TAPER off. Slowly!

I am not a nurse, pharmacist or anything else
official! I'm just a person who hasn't taken her
EffexorXR for a week. ;)

For starters, try taking your normal dosage every
OTHER day, instead of every day. For maybe a week or
two, do that. If you feel okay, then go to half a
dose, every other day. If you feel lousy, take the
half-dose every day for a week or two, THEN go to
every other day. Then half again, so you're at 1/4
the original dosage. Again, if you feel bad, take it
every day for a week and then every OTHER day for a
week again. Keep going this way for another week or
two, then stop.

You'll probably have a few days after you stop taking
it altogether, where you'll not feel so great. For me
it was slight dizziness, slight nausea, and noticeable
muscle-twitches. Mild insomnia was also a problem,
but I solved that with herbal sleeping pills. My mood
went downhill FAST, but I feel physically so much
better that it's worth it. And my mouth isn't dry and
I don't sleep all the time! :)

Things to have on hand:

Empty capsules for dividing the capsules.

Herbal sleeping pills...if you can get "Hyland's Calms
Forte'", try taking them (one at a time!) during the
day to relax you a bit. Also you can try valerian
and/or kava kava. If you have a homeopathic pharmacy,
you can ask them for advice specifically.

Good luck...
