Hello,
If you have been taking a stimulant say 15mgs of Adderall or the equivalent in Ritalin or dexedrine, for ADD or Depression and you suddenly stop, would you likely have a withdrawal or crash? I'm talking about those taking a strictly therapeutic dose range not someone abusing the heck out of it..
Your feedback is much appreciated.

My opinion: yes. I take 10 mg Adderall twice a day and 5 mg once a day, and once or twice when I ran out of meds and it took a few days before getting a refill, I felt pretty awful.

Sure. There's no guarantee that it will or won't happen to any particular person, but people taking therapeutic doses of psychostimulants (and many other drugs) do sometimes experience withdrawal syndromes if they stop taking the drug abruptly or miss a dose. That's why it's important to taper off these drugs slowly.
Hope this helps. Be careful, eh?

I'm talking about those taking a strictly therapeutic dose range not someone abusing the heck out of it..I've never had the problem, either when I switched off Dexedrine (at 45mg/day) cold-turkey a couple years ago or, recently (at 30mg/day) if miss a dose or 2. I, however, have never gotten much in the way of euphoric effects from it, nor do I get many of the peripheral side-effects, even at high doses, so I may not be a typical case. I can also take it right before bed and sleep fine. I'm a mutant.
From my experience with my friends who used to be monster meth-freaks, even if you are taking speed at abuse-levels, it does not produce TOO much in the way of withdrawl. You may sleep for a day and feel crappy for a week.

>Nope not a mutant, just ADD. Ritalin (concerta) and Adderal both zonk me out totally if I take too much. i can take 10 mg of adderal and then take a long refreshing nap. I sleep after I drink coffee, alcohol puts me to sleep, as does Dayquil, sudafed, etc. Nyquil wakes me up.
Thre's a well-known small 'crash' effect when the stims wear off at various points in the day, but I've never noticed anything egregious if I stop taking 'em for a few days.

> a fellow mutantI also get very sleepy if I take too much of a stimulant.......I also get very drowsy if I drink too much coffee as well......I currently take large doses of Adderall (between 60 and 80mg a day) because I have a high tolerance for drugs and need higher doses to compensate. I usually take these drugs during the work week and stop on the weekends for no particular reason. The only "withdrawl" effect that I sometimes notice is that the day after (usually a Saturday) I stop, I sometimes will get very drowsy during the day.....it could be from the Celexa I am taking and the stimulants just cover the drowsy side effect of that during the week and it hits me by surprise on Saturday.......but usually that Sunday, the drowsiness does not seem to be as much of a problem.......maybe my body just readjusts to counter the Celexa side effects........this past Memorial Day weekend I had a 4 day weekend and I told myself I would not take any Adderall during that time and I just followed the same routine..........a little drowsy on Friday but the rest of the weekend I felt great.....it is so funny how the brain of an ADD person works.....before I was diagnosed, I always wondered why coffee could make me drowsy while it pepped up everyone else.......I guess we are just wired differently in the brain!
