Which meds effect what?

Posted by terra miller on May 23, 2001, at 18:44:10

I'm between pdocs and doing my own figuring out which chemicals need help in my bod. Can someone crash course me, since I keep forgetting, what the following drugs act on (ie: dopamine, NE, etc.) and if it's a weak or strong aid on that chemical. I'd be grateful for a real life response vs. a link. Just mentally fried right now. Thanks. Terra

Wellbutrin
SSRI's: Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac
Effexor
Serzone
Ativan
Klonopin
Trazadone
Ambien
Zyprexa
The other one like Zyprexa?
Depakote
Lamictal
Mood stabilizer vs. what?

thanks a bunch.

Dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin.... what other chemicals we dealing with here?

Here's a link. http://www.tpointts.force9.co.uk/en-psych-eur/medicin/med-pharm.htm

Sorry, most of us just don't have that kinda info in our heads, it'd take lotsa time online to get it all consolidated (tho once it WAS, it'd be mighty handy!). Mebbe you could ask Dr Bob to do it for a long-term page on the site...?
If I turn out to have lotsa free time at work today I'll start on it, but ...no promises. :/

I'll get ya started with the few I know, tho. :)

Easy one. :) Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor. (Once the seratonin is used in your brain, it's USED)

> Effexor: potent inhibitors of neuronal serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake and weak inhibitors of dopamine reuptake. (Personal note: BEWARE, this one seems to take LARGE doses to do what it's supposed to do!)

> Serzone: exerts dual effects on serotonergic neurotransmission through blockade of serotonin type 2 (5HT2) receptors and inhibition of serotonin uptake.

:-) I'm also making the conclusion that follows from that, that if "I" had all the info in my head I'd know it pretty well myself which is rather humorous right now.

That's a great idea, and I bet he has here somewhere, just to find it.

'Tis begun. :)

But I'm somewhat confused.

Are you epileptic?
Do they COMMONLY give anticonvulsants to mentally ill folk?

And do you have access to Excel?
I made it an Excel chart but if you don't have Excel it won't do you any good and I'll redo it in some generic format.

That's what I used to build it. (darn nice for free software! large DownLoad, tho. :/ )

My email is attached. Email me and I'll send you the chart. :)
