It it true that Prozac is less likely to induce weight gain or constipation than Paxil? Paxil made me feel "normal", but I'd like to reduce the weight gain/constipation.
Also, is Prozac more likely to make me feel nervous than Paxil did?
Thanks in advance

> Thanks in advanceYes despite the literature on it, Paxil constipates almost in a worse way than the old antidepressants. And it is most likely to cause weight gain than Prozac & Zoloft. Zoloft and Prozac are less likely to cause these problems although some would argue it's all a crapshoot (no pun intended). Personally while I have had my own share of issues with Zoloft, I think it is overall the best SSRI to use for most people.

For me the prozac has not helped as much with anxiety as paxil did, so far.

Having been on both meds, Paxil caused me constipation; Prozac does not. I was always hungry on Paxil [[came off before gaining weight which I knew would happen]. I lost 4 pounds on Prozac. 20 mg of Paxil helped my anxiety. However, I went up to 40 mg of Prozac which now helps the anxiety as well as the Paxil, and I'm not quite as tired. I think Prozac is a better med if it works. It had almost no side effects for me; started at 10 mg then 20 mg, then 40 mg. I do have insomnia, and take a xanax at night, but I feel good with very little side effects [had headaches in the beginning, also from Zoloft]. Just my humble opinion.

> It is absolutely true. Not only will you not be constipated on Prozac, but you will be quite regular, at least for the first month or so that you are on it. This little plus is part of why Prozac, renamed Sarafem, is being marketed as a PMS drug that reduces bloating. The weight gain thing varies. I too lost at first unlike with Paxil where I rapidly gained weight and saw no appreciable mood improvement. Prozac has always been my favorite AD, and for me, has the least number of side effects, but as we all know, your mileage may vary.
