I havent been taking any medications for a long time, I recently got some adrafinil, I was going to try taking up to 4 pills a day, or 1200mg per day total, I read the drug can cause liver damage, so I am not sure if adrafinil is a good idea or not. I was taking prozac for about 1 year before I quit, the prozac didnt help much with depression, but it helped to make me more relaxed. I am thinking about trying medication again and I am trying to decide what drug I want to try, or something I might ask a doctor to prescribe for me if I ever go see a doctor again. I wouldnt want to go back on prozac again because it didnt help enough, I am not sure if I should try other ssri's because the results might be the same as prozac. Is it possible for one ssri to not work and another ssri to work great in the same person? So my questions are, can I take high doses of adrafinil for a very very long time without my liver being damaged? And should I even bother trying other ssri's if prozac didnt help? And also I was thinking about maybe trying wellbutrin, if anybody has good things to say about wellbutrin or bad things. Is wellbutrin a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, I am not sure, I need something energizing, but something that will also not make my anxiety worse, and of coarse something that will lift my spirits. So if anybody wants to say anything all comments or suggestions welcome.

If prozac didn't make a dent in your depression, I doubt that the other SSRIs will. But trust your doctor's judgment on that matter, for he probably knows what's best for you.

That doesn't prove that switching to another SSRI has any better a chance of helping than say, a switch to Venlafaxine. You're just looking at chemicals.

Hello,
I am concerned about Adrafinilīs side effects too.
I searched the web and could not find any good information.
Basically, I would like to know if the danger is real liver damage or just elevation of enzymes, that can be reversible. I know nothing about physiology.
http://www2.biam2.org/www/Sub1545.html
PHOSPHATASES ALCALINES(AUGMENTATION) (CERTAIN TRES RARE)
Condition(s) Favorisante(s) :
TRAITEMENT PROLONGE
It reads the elevation of liver enzymes it is rarefrom the packet insert
Side EffectsAs with any active product, this medicine may possibly cause side effects. Headache, stomach pains and skin irritations have been reported in clinical tests, and in certain cases, inner tension
There is an article Modafinil, the ultimate stimulant by Robert Mason PhD. he says about Adrafinil:...and in long term use (over three months usually), an increase in liver enzyme levels, (which is reversible by reduction or withdrawal).All recommend liver tests for long term use.I think they are expensive.
Maybe taking rest periods once you got an effect works. I do not know.
In an old post (here I think) someone suggested Adrafinil works by the glutamatergic system. I also read glutamate can cause neurotoxicity but I do not understand this issue very well.
I started Adrafinil at 300mg and got gastrointestinal distress. I reduced to 150 (as JohnL suggested) to develop tolerance. Letīs see what happens.
If I could afford it, I would take SAM-e. I took it for a short period and I think it has an effect. It can cause a bit of anxiety but I think it is tolerable.
