Adderall and side-effects

Posted by Ksenia on February 24, 2001, at 23:07:55

I have taken many medicines in my lifetime and am currently on Paxil, Tegretol, Nordette and now Adderall. I take approximately 30 mgs a day of Adderall and have noticed a drastic change in the normal size of my pupils. They always seem to be extremely dilated. Plus I have found that I actually feel stupid when I take the Adderall. I was wondering if I should be worried about the dilation seeing as how dilated pupils are a symptom of problems in the brain. What does everyone think?

I think that perhaps what you are noticing is how the Adderall makes you moderately stimulated--this seems to have an effect on your intelligence because it makes you hasty; impulsive; maybe even anxious. Your thoughts race, so it seems like you can't think straight.

I highly doubt that the Adderall causes the brain to function abnormally. That drug has been around for decades now, and its effects are well-known. But if you really cannot tolerate the Adderall for whatever reason, there is always modafinil, methylphenidate, or pemoline...

Best of luck to you...

>My first question would be why is adderall being prescribed for you?
My own experience with depression and ADD is that Paxil will potentiate
the adderall slightly. Have you checked your med interactions with a med
checker like Dr.Koop.com?

At doses that were too high for me, I noticed some of the symptoms that you described
tho I understood them as a worsening of my ADD symptoms -- a common
response when the pstim dose is too high.

Adderall has been around for a long time and should not [in theory] cause brain
damage if taken correctly. I would certainly check out any possible drug interactions,
possibly even food too.

How are you taking the adderall? Sometimes you can make yourself a bit spacey if you take
it at the wrong times.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.
S.

I have ADHD and am borderline bipolar if that makes any sense... I took Ritalin for a long time and that began to make me sick actually. Adderall is new for me. Actually I have found that if I take just like 5 mg or so then I feel okay - but it doesn't make me focus very well. but it also doesn't make me feel spacy... so I am still getting used to it. The same doctor has prescribed all my medicines... and thanks for recommending the other site - i will definitely check it out!
