Weight Gain

Posted by ralph S. on February 23, 2001, at 21:15:54

I am now 3 weeks off of Effexor XR 150 mgs. I cannot begin to tell anyone of the hell I went through trying to get off of this drug. I truly think I would rather live with the depression that I experienced before going on this medication than have to live with the withdrawal effects. I have also gained 20 pounds. I was only on the meds for 6 months but gained the weight in about 3-4 months. I have never experienced a problem with weight. I used to be able to run 5 miles a day and stayed a consistant 120 pounds. I am now at 140 and am more depressed because of this weight gain. Please someone tell me I can lose this weight. I cannot seem to get motivated after the withdrawal and am depressed about my weight. Did anyone else experience weight gain and did you lose it?

Thanks for the help,

Ralph S.

Ralph S. ~ I gained 12 lbs. in a year on 75 mg. of Effexor, even though I go/went to the gym 3-4 times a week and watch every morsel of food I put in my mouth. I've started weaning off of Effexor seven weeks ago and have been totally off of it for a month this coming Tuesday. Withdrawal was pure hell, and I still feel awful. Dunno if it's still withdrawal or if these feelings are going to be "me" from now on. I'm a complete nauseous zombie with a racing heart and tears only a blink away. The racing heart makes me so, so tired. All I want to do is sleep. I still go to the gym, but am exhausted the rest of the day. Paralyzed almost. Tomorrow I'll call the doctor and go on something else.
What is your plan of action? Alli

Alli,

I have been to the doctor for blood work to see why I am not feeling well. He seems to think that the withdrawal has caused my nausea and fatigue. I am better today and everyday seems to get better. I am so depressed abouth the weight. Hopefully tomorrow I can feel like working out. I just don't have much energy. I think if I had something to give me energy I could feel better. For now I just need to take it one day at a time. Thanks for responding.

I lost my 35 lbs Effexor weight when I went off it and on a low carb diet. Effexor makes you crave carbs I think
