I've been taking neurontin for about a year now. My dosage was upped to 1200 mg a day about six months ago.
I noticed then some impotence. It has gotten worse with a noticable lack of interest in any sex now. I've also gained about 30 pounds in the last two months, with no change in life style.Never having had a weight problem, and always (to the point of addiction) being interested in sex, I find my self more depressed than when I started taking the Neurontin, which is what it was prescribed for.
I tried stopping on my own about a month ago and didn't sleep for three days! I started taking it again. When I talked to my pdoc about it, he said he had never heard of the side effects, but those posting here seem to have heard of them.
He told me that if I wanted to stop taking the med, I would just have to go through withdrawal! From what I've read, that can include siezures!!!!
Any input on this????

From my personal experience and what I have heard from others, weight gain from Neurontin isn't half as bad as it is from Depakote. But I think that adding Lamictal to Neurontin would help a lot with your depression--and let you lower your dose of Neurontin. Lamictal is said to have the most antidepressant properties of any of the anticonvulsants...It is being considered by the FDA for approval in bipolar disorder, _before_ Neurontin. I thought that was pretty interesting.
I take 400 mg of Lamictal every day with no side-effects.
