Rather be fat and horny

Posted by roo on February 6, 2001, at 11:28:13

Ok, I'm really sexually frustrated with these
ad's. I know you've heard it all before. I feel
so mad. I know it would be dumb to go off my meds,
then i'd be too depressed for sex anyway. BUT, I am
thinking of trying Remeron. It's the one drug that's
not supposed to have the sexual side effects that I haven't
tried (tried both wellbutrin and serzone which greatly
increased my depression). I've been reluctant to try
remeron because of the notorious weight gain. But I'm
at the point where I'll try anything not to feel like
a neuter anymore. It's probably been 2 years since i've
felt moon howlin, dog panting horny, and I miss it, dammit.
I _really_ miss it. At this moment it seems worth it
to be fat and horny.
So what's the point of this post. To rant, I guess. And
also to ask any remeron users out there about it's effect
on their sex life.

Remeron

I started Remeron at 60 mg right away and had no side-effects. Here are the benefits of Remeron: --It can be used for all types of depression, anxiety, OCD, and insomnia. --It is convienient because it is taken only once at bedtime. --It may improve libido and sexual performance (its the only medication that improves mine). Dr. Bob Hsieung's fellow doctors recommend it for sexual dysfunction. --It has none of the anticholinergic effects of SSRIs. --It has gained recognition from psychiatrists in only four years of FDA approval. See the Organon website for further information.

Remeron did *not* affect my sexual function at all (unfortunately, all the SSRIs do, but I haven't been able to find anything else that helps). It was such a relief to have my old sexuality back. I know what you mean about missing it. Unfortunately, the REmeron didn't work on my depression. The good news though, is that I didn't gain any weight. The problem with it is that it makes you *really* hungry about half an hour after you take it. But it also makes you *really* tired. I was able to just go to sleep -- I was so tired I couldn't make it to the kitchen. The point is, be sure you take the Remeron at night, when you are ready to go to bed. It knocks you out, so much so that you can choose sleep over eating!

Hi roo,

I tried Remeron and it did harm my libido, but I think I'm in the minority. To counteract weight gain and sleepiness, you may want to add a stimulant or Wellbutrin. This may help your depression also.
