I've read that stimulants can cause permanent neurotransmitter depletion when used long-term. Apparently drugs that cause the RELEASE of neurotransmitters, rather than blocking their reuptake, cause the damage. I read that people who take stimulants long term have improved sexual functioning at first, but then lost their sexual functioning because of a depletion of dopamine. I'd like to hear from people who have been on stimulants for years.

What kind of stimulants were you thinking about? amphetamines? ritalin? adderal? or something different like modifinil? im not sure if I spelled those right?

I was thinking about stimulants of any kind, especially adderall and ritalin.

If what you say is true, all the antidepressant which produce release of neurotransmitters like MAOI would cause, at the end, depretion of neurotransmission....
