I have been on Prozac 9 days [started 4 days at 10 mg] and am now on 20 mg. I weaned off Zoloft [after 7 weeks] about a week ago, and because I took the Prozac I had no withdrawl effects from the Zoloft. I have no side effects from the Prozac, and the last week I took Zoloft I started to feel a little better. I take .5 Xanax generic before bedtime. The Prozac seems to be working well cause I went on three job interviews which I never could have done before. I had no motivation to do that. If this med continues to work for me I am staying on it forever. I came off Paxil once after 4 months and my symptoms returned, and it did not work well the 2nd time I took it. Any Prozac success stories? Anything I should know?

Cool news! Glad to hear things are turning the corner. That's great! Nine days. One week and two days. Not bad. I like it. There's enough of a hint already to tell if it might be worth continuing, yeah? Just my opinion, but I think having any improvement this early is a very good sign.I have found Prozac to be the best of the bunch for me. I've tried them all. Overall I like it the best. Just my own preference. My local GP still prescribes more Prozac than all the other ADs combined. He says after all these years he still has the best luck with Prozac.

My doctor has said something similar about success with Prozac. I took it for a few years and was happy with the results. The only reason I switched to a different medication is that it was not as effective for me when I restarted it after taking a break from it when I was pregnant.Shell

Dear Jackie,AARGH !
I hope others read your post to avoid having to learn the same lesson that you did the hard way. At the very least, in cases of moderate to severe depression, I should think it prudent to take an antidepressant for a minimum of 14 months. And in such cases, the process of discontinuing the medication should follow a very gradual weaning schedule. The odds of post-continuation relapse are *dramatically* reduced when a slow withdrawal of medication is employed. This includes lithium. If the depression falls into certain catergories, it is true that one best consider that treatment be continued indefinitely.
This sort of thing happens more than I can count on Psycho-Babble. It drives me nuts. It frustrates me. It angers me. It can be a tragic mistake to discontinue an effective treatment prematurely.
I'll truncate the rant.
Jackie, I hope Prozac remains your "miracle" drug as it has been for countless others. Even if you do see diminishing returns at some point in the distant future, there are so many ways to "recapture" the antidepressant response without having to change drugs.
I am happy for you.
Sincerely,
Scott* It may take weeks, or even a few months before you are 100%. It can be a very gradual process once it starts. That you already feel better is a great sign that you will get there. Please be patient.

The Prozac helps me with depression. I don't feel as anxious either. I am never coming off this med. I learned my lesson with Paxil which I weaned off very gradually [twice]. I am much happier it seems, and am thinking positive, not negative as I used to do. I went for therapy [cognitive] and am going for a 2nd time, but I don't think I need it that much since feeling so much better about everything. I am very grateful for Prozac, and I hope it stays this way for me! Thank you all so much for your support.

Joy, Prozac was the first medication I ever used for Panic Disorder/Agoraphobia. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I made me feel like "wow, this is me; this is the me I was before all this happened."
The reason I went off it was because within 6 months, I gained 40lbs. I was switched to Zoloft which made me gain more weight, so we went back to Prozac, but it did NOT work the same the Second time around. At that time, 6 years ago now, I was told by my doctor that it was pretty commom to not have the same results the Second time around...HAD I KNOWN OR THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE STOPPED GAINING AT A CERTAIN POINT, I WOULD HAVE NEVER EVER STOPPED TAKING IT...Since then, I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, Paxil, and now Celexa..Nothing compares. WEll, I can't really say so far with Celexa because I am only on 10mgs for 12 days now. But, I was like you, I felt better very, very quickly on Prozac..

I'll join the crowd here--I've taken prozac for
years now, and it agrees really well with me, more
so than other ad's. It seems to help me really
quickly too. Except for the sexual side effects,
I don't even feel like I'm on a drug, except that
I feel more positive. If it weren't for those pesky
sexual side effects, I would think about staying
on it forever too. At this point, really groovin'
sex is but a distant memory. *sigh*. But this is
temporary, I hope.
This is the end of the thread.
