Two weeks ago I started taking Serzone and everything is going well. One question though...can Serzone cause weight gain like some of the others do?

Hi Patty,

Can't tell you for sure that you won't gain weight with nefazodone (Serzone). However, it appears that among the antidepressants, Serzone and bupropion (Wellbutrin) seem to cause the least amount of weight gain. (Cases of weight loss have been reported particularly with Wellbutrin.) Serzone may inhibit weight gain due to one of its active metabolite, m-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP), which may have appetite-suppressant effect. Wellbutrin may induce weight loss due to its close similarity in chemical structure to an appetite-suppressant agent, diethylpropion (Tenuate).

Just my own 2 cents.

I've been taking Serzone for about 5 months, and seem to have actually lost a bit of the weight that I had gained on previous meds. Not sure if it's because of the Serzone specifically, or just because I've finally been feeling so much better so I've been way more active and less inclined to eat when I'm not hungry.
