DSM4 codes for mental illness drugs

Posted by Josie Chaney on December 5, 2000, at 14:31:45

Good Afternoon-

I'm looking for a list of DSM4 codes for drugs frequently prescribed for mental illness. Any ideas about where I should look or who I should ask?

Thanx!
Josie

James here....

AFAIK DSM-X has nothing to do with meds, just dx.

This took me a few moments to decipher, but it is a good one. Hey, we could get so efficient in writing that entire sentences could be a serious acronyms.

Josie,

You'll find the DSM-IV listings (diagnoses for mental illness) ordered by numerical code and alphabetically at this site: http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/dsm4.html

The link for this can also be found on Dr. Bob's Links page, which you can access at the top of this page. On the links page, there's also a link called "DSM-IV made easy."

To learn about how different drugs are used for mental illnesses, you might scan the postings here, especially if you have questions about a particular drug. There also are algorithms on the links page that show flowcharts for administering drugs for specific illnesses, which may give you **some** idea about how **some** of the drugs are used, but certainly not every one. I like the Harvard algorithm best.

Hope this helps, and welcome.

Allison
