I just recovered from a psychosis caused by my frequent use of amphetamines (XTC and speed). Having been clean for almost a year now, I wonder if even sporadic use (say, once every three months) can be dangerous. And how about cocaine?

If you've been clean for one year, then go for two. Sporadic use is not likely. Been there, done that. Very dangerous. You would do good to stay as far away from trouble as possible. There are enough problems in life without creating them on purpose.
One year is pretty darn good. Go for two.

It is extremely unlikely that you could maintain at the level of occasional use. You have seen in yourself the tendency/drive to go overboard. Why would you expect it to be different this time? You would end up the same way as you were a year ago. Think about what it was like a year ago. Review the details in your mind. How it was to get clean. How it was your first month of being clean.
You are probably self=medicating, n'est-ce pas?
Go for two.

James here....
Of course I agree with what the others said. The fact that
you went psychotic indicates in a great way you cannot control
drugs, and amphetamine is most dificult for anyone to control
at levels of abuse. It is also true that since you went "over the edge"
once, this will happen again but will take less amphetamine. Cocaine is out.
This level of abuse beggs the question "why were you doing this?"James

We do not disagree, you missed my distenction. Note that I mentioned
psychosis in terms of levels of abuse, which are orders of magnitude
from levels used theriputically. I take Dexadrine with no probelms.James

I suffered very bad effects from heavy amph. use and I believe permanent nervous system damage. They are highly addictive and stronger than us in my humble opinion. What is the reason you feel you need to take the amphetamines and or cocaine? Once you realize the reason find other healthy ways to deal with the problems. Maybe see a therapist if the problems are too tough to handle-I did. Now, I take psychotropics that are safer.
