Why does your doctor want you on ADs for a short time?

I'm asking because there have been studies suggesting that taking ADs for less than 2 years can both increase the risk of recurrance and decrease the chance of the same drug working again.

Other than those questions, I'd say there are some withdrawal symptoms from most ADs, some worse than others. Effexor may have wretched withdrawal symptoms, but it has very few side effects for most people.

Basically, it's a case of six of one, half dozen of another. One drug may be easier to stop taking, but have rotten side effects while you're on it. The other drug may be a bear to withdraw from, but relatively benign while you take it.

Good luck!

I would mention your concerns about withdrawal to your doctor and see what he has to say. Most doctors are aware of the problem and there are ways to ease the discontinuation, such as adding a small amount of Prozac (which has a longer half-life) as the Effexor dose is slowly decreased.

You also may not have withdrawal problems, not everyone does. Some people get withdrawal symptoms after missing one day, but I have missed days here and there (I tend to be forgetful) and haven't noticed any difference. I also mistakenly doubled my dose to 600 mg one day and didn't notice any difference.
