Hi, I've been on Ativan for 2 months now, talking 1 mg twice a day, today I called my Pharmacy to have it refilled and my Doctor didn't approve it, What can I expect? I'm also taking Serzone 100 mg twice a day. I'm afraid I'll have withdrawals, can anyone tell me any info on how to deal with this?

---------------------------------------------------------Call you doctor and talk to him only. If he wants you to discontinue Ativan, he should wean you off---he must know this. Your pharmacy might have contacted someone else in his office--a nurse or receptionist. Give him a call--if he refuses, get another doctor.

If I were you, I would call the doctor on the phone and ask what the situation is. Maybe he/she forgot? That might be the case. Or maybe there was miscommunication. Perhaps the doctor wanted to see you again first before continuing with the prescription, but somewhere along the line this wasn't made clear. If instead the medication was stopped purposely, ask why. I would want to know why. And I would also ask why I was not informed ahead of time. I would clearly but politefully express my disapproval of that method of doing business. And I would also want to know what the doctor's plans are from this point on. In any case, it sounds to me like you should get on the phone and find out what's going on. Don't let the receptionist give you any excuses...insist on talking to the doctor personally. He/she can take the minute or two required to do that, at a bare minimum. After all, who's paying who anyway? As long as you are the payer, you are ultimately the boss.At your low dosage I wouldn't expect too much of a problem in stopping abruptly. I would definitely expect some discomfort, but nothing severe. I have to wonder though why a doctor would purposefully cause abrupt stoppage without reasonable cause, and without advance notice. It's definitely warranted to get on the phone and find out what's going on.

Ditto to all of the above...it is my doctor's opinion that even if you are taking one aspirin a day, you never go cold turkey...check out with the doc...hope it was just miscommunication.Jane

Louie: I don't know about your situation, but if you try to get your prescription refilled too soon (or too many times within a given time period), some docs will cut you off. They don't want to take a chance that a patient might be selling it. Just call him or her to straighten out the situation.

Hi, thanks for all your support. Apparently everything was a miscommunication, I talked to my doctor and he was more than glad to have the prescription refilled. However, he did tell me he was going to stop it soon, but not as abrupt as I thought he had. Louie
