remeron wiping me out!! anyone on wellbutrin?

Posted by annie8 on September 10, 2000, at 14:05:37

I have been on remeron for a few day, take it before bed and pass out for 12 to 14 hours, I can't do this, it is horrible. I am out of it all of the time. i am going to have to switch meds, I was on wellbutrin and got side effects, my jaw keep clenching like I was on speed or something ( not that I have taken it but I am a social worker and witness speed dependence alot!) anyway, has anyone had this side effect on wellbutrin, and does anyone take a really low dose? I was thinking if I did that I could go back on it and try again, this remeron is basically wiping my life out..

as a graduate student I can't afford to sleep 15 hours a day this week, i have to function... any feedback would be SO appreciated about wellbutrin,

I am only willing to take meds if they dont' cause sexual side effects, that really limits me, which sucks!!

thanks
annie

Hi Annie,

Have you tried halving your Remeron dose to 7.5? And as JohnL suggested, have you tried taking it earlier in the evening? The sedating effect really does wear off with time and often you will not see a real difference in your mood for a number of weeks. Taking it for just a few days isn't really a fair trial, IMHO. Have you talked with your doctor about all this?

That said, my doctor augmented my Remeron with Wellbutrin, starting with 100mg in the a.m. I was on 45 mg Remeron in the pm, and the Wellbutrin helped clear the morning cobwebs. Things got worse, Wellbutrin got doubled to 200 and then upped to 300.

Every time I increased the dose of Wellbutrin, I got edgy, irritable, my mind raced, etc. but that wore off, too. I got accustomed to the side-effects and endured them because I knew they would wear off over a couple of weeks. Ended up increasing Wellbutrin to the top dose of 400 (200mg in a.m. and 200mg at 3 pm) and reducing the Remeron to 15mg (about an hour before bedtime) and this combo seems to be working best.

There's also an psychobabble links page on Wellbutrin with all of the archived PB posts and other info off the web: http://www.egroups.com/links/psycho-babble-tips/Wellbutrin_SR_000963633280/
You'll find some excellent posts by Cam W. there. He da man when it comes to Wellbutrin. He da man anyway, but especially with Well.

Good luck and take care.
Allison

James here.....

I few days is not enough time to see if sedation
will be less, esp if you try some of the ideas others
have mentioned. EVERY antidepressant does something strange at
first, unless one is willing to stick it out there really is no
point in trying AD's. You really don't get a good indication
in the first week of anything so it is pointless to to change meds
after a week. My experiance is that Remeron was very sedating in the first week or
so, I slept 12-14 hrs, this is normal. Better in the lest few weeks, I don't
even notice any sedation in the AM, now. Keep in mind ths ALL antidepressants take 4-8
weeks to work. The sedation stops when the AD kicks in.

thanks for the feedback, I have gone off the remeron and feel better... glad it works for so many, but I am in graduate school and can't afford to be out of it completely for a week to wait to see if the effects wear off.. thank goodness i tried it on a weekend, my doctor didnt' even warn me that the side effects could be so bad...

wow

take care
