Withdrawl from prozac elavil, Please Please help

Posted by DebbyM on August 28, 2000, at 18:42:26

I stopped (abruptly) taking Prozac 2wks ago for sexual side effects, I was on it for depression x3 yrs. Also stopped Elavil a couple of days later (on it for prevention of migraines but I had a huge weight gain). I felt great the 1st few days, but then I stopped being able to get to sleep. I am irritable & obviously very tired. I need help. From what I've read, Prozac doesn't have the withdrawl effects that Paxil has because it has a much longer half life. I am about ready to start just the elavil again. I am not getting to sleep before between 2 & 4 am. What am I to do? I will not go on the Prozac again because of the sexual problems. My depression seems to have abated, but I am so tired! Any replies would be greatly appreciated!!!

Debbie, if I were you I would restart both the prozac and elevil again and decrease slower. I guess I would trade a couple of more weeks of sexual problems for no sleep and irritibility, but it's your call. shellie

James here....

Or just restart Elavil at night for sleep. Please remember 2 weeks
is not enough time to know if the depression will return. Prozac will
not leave your system for many weeks. Just watch for it in the next few months.
