Insurance co-pay problem

Posted by CynthiaMai on August 2, 2000, at 18:22:10

We have client who have been getting prescriptions from their psychiatrists for newer medications (Luvox, Zyprexa) and unfortunately their insurance companies will not cover the expense (sometimes $500 per month or more). In addition, because they are new there is no generic version. Does anyone know any way to circumvent this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

James here....

1) ask hmo to allow non-formulary meds, I do this
Has to be done on a med by med, patient by patient basis.

2) speak to drug reps or www.themedicineprogram.com for reduced price meds

Most drug manufacturers have programs to provide drugs to clients in need. You can contact the individual mfgs. as well as the site St. James mentioned.

Good luck.
