Thanks to all

Twice this week I was talking to someone when the conversation turned to depression and antidepressants. Each knew I've been struggling with medications, and brought up the topic with me. Both of the people I was speaking with are or have been on ADs, thinking about switching or getting back on them. There were moments with both people where I started to talk more extensively about ADs -- what I'd read about this one or that one, etc. Then I realized I'd gone over their heads and I was getting blank stares. All of this stuff I've been reading about for months I could just talk about as though I were talking about the weather. I had to stop.

It made me realize how some people just take drugs without looking into them, without really knowing what they do and why, without even being able to exactly remember the name of what they're taking. It's scary.

It also struck me how lucky I am to have found this board. I have learned so very much from all of you. I still might not quite understand things like 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, but I know a heck of a lot more than most folk on the street. And I know where to go if I do want to learn the finer points of those things. None of this would be without all of your contributions.

So thanks.

I was just reading some of the folders on Wellbutrin you composed allison. Thanks, that was great.

We should have some kind of graduation diploma from Psychobabble, "I now know more than I ever wanted to about mental health, and hope I will never have to use this knowledge again in the future'".

All joking aside, I credit much of my improvement to me educating myself, much of which I did here.

Thanks again for your Wellbutrin folder, Janice

Janice,

Glad the folder helped. I've only archived through 2000 on the Psychobabble threads, and I haven't done a lot of searching on the web yet. A work in progress I guess. If there's something you've seen that should be added, pls. let me know.

I like your diploma idea.
Then we could sign our names as though we had some real professional credential: Jane Doe, P.B. and hang shingles in our homes and offices.

Or maybe we could earn a merit badge. I could sew it to my forehead or something... :-}

Good luck with the Wellbutrin. I've found it's helped me more than any drug, just about. I always get irritable, though, when my dose changes. But that doesn't last but a few weeks.

Take care.
Allison
