Hello, Cam and others, I have generally been lurking, but I keep up on the posts. Cam, I thought since you were a fellow Canadian that you may have an answer to this question. When will reboxetine be available in Canada? I have searched the web, but found nothing. Thank you ahead of time for the reply.
Cam, I was sorry to hear about your associate who passed away. Life is definitely not fair. I have thought about you often, and hope you are managing. Take care.

Margaret - Thanks.
The Canadian government has demanding standards for approving a drug (read - underfunded and backlogged). Mirtazepine (Remeron) hasn't been approved yet and I have an article from a pharmacy journal expecting it's release in the fall of 1998.As for reboxetine, I do know that clinical trials are being done at several centers across Canada. Approval may be a year or two away, yet.
Sorry, no better news than that. Maybe others have an inside scoop that they could share. - Cam

>Cam, it sounds reassuring that at least they
are doing trials on it. I have read a fair
amount about it, and thought it sounds like a
possibility. I would really like to switch from Paxil
if I can find a equal or better Ad with less side-effects.
I like what I have heard about reboxetine and its
worth a try. Thank you for your response. Take it easy. A friend

Hi again, I have really been kicking over the option
my doctor gave me to go on wellbutrin and come off
paxil. I am a little afraid to do it. Does anyone have any
suggestions. Is the wellbutrin a good ad, I am afraid that since
it just works with dopamine that going off the ssri
will put me back into a depression. Thanks for listening
to me blather.

In reply to more questions, any help appreciated, posted by Margaret on July 21, 2000, at 1:16:17
Others know more about this than I do but I thought that if a person had a good mood improvement with an SSRI but the side effects are intolerable, then the person should be either switched to another SSRI (or other serotonergic med) that wouldn't have those side effects or have that original SSRI (Paxil in your case) augmented with another med that would ameliorate the side effects. For example, Wellbutrin is often added to an SSRI to lessen fatigue and sexual side effects. Reboxetine combines well with SSRIS. Another option is some of the newer meds that combine serotonin and NE action. See D. Bob's Tips section under the search terms 'SSRI' and 'side effects' for more ideas.

Margaret,
I am a fellow Canadian who lives near Toronto, Ontario.
My doctor was able to get Reboxetine directly from the manufacturer after he applied for permission from Ottawa to allow me to participate in a trial of the drug. I don't have many details on how he received approval or who exactly he received approval from as I was just so happy to get the med. If you want, email me and I will get more info during my next appointment.
