It's been a really confusing week. After trying the provigal I became extremely tired. My pdoc said she thought it was probably my reaction to the provigal and agreed that I should stop. She said it should clear my body in about three days.
Five days later I was still as tired, or more tired. It felt like an impossible task to get to the grocery store. It still felt like a drug thing--no other symptoms besides tired mind and body, and very dry mouth. But I was sure I had chronic fatigue syndrome or epson-barr.
Thank goodness for the internet. I could rule out both chronic fatigue and epson-barr because I had no swollen glands or sore throat. But I was so down and confused and couldn't get any work done. Then I had this flash that when I picked up the provigal, I had also picked up my aderex prescription (for allergy and sleep), and the pharmacy had changed generic brands.
Sure enough I returned the rest of my pills, and they gave me my old generic and today I feel so much more normal. (Still tired in the pm: that is my normal, but not all the time) So I guess I didn't really do a provigal trial--although it certainly didn't help the tiredness. Now I have ritalin to start tomorrow and I wondering if I should try the provigal again, or just skip right to the ritalin. Probably will choose the later.
And now I'm very scared of generics, so I got the brand name of ritalin. (I can always change later). I had always heard, "watch out for generics, but this was the first time I had any bad effects from one, and if I hadn't realized it---I would be making an appointment with my internist for a workup. And everything would have been fine and it could have set up a whole chain of specialists, etc., all because they changed my generic. That's pretty scary. I only wish my "flash" had come a bit earlier.

just my 2 cents, but if it were me, I would give the provigil a fair trial now that you know what caused your fatigue. I hate having "what-ifs" in the back of my mind, but thats just my opinion.
Good luck with whatever you chose.
Sincerely,
Anthony

> Hey Anthony. How is your pneunomia? I had it a couple of years ago and for me the worst part was a horrible cough. The only thing that helped the cough was codeine (my definite drug of choice, if I had a choice).Have you gone back to increasing the adrafinil? Have you been able to find out any more information? Probably haven't had much time if you're still recovering. Hope you're feeling better. Please keep us informed. shellie

I am feeling better. I increased the the adrafanil back up to 300mg/day wednesday, so hopefully another 3-4 days will give me a better idea of its effects. Good luck with the ritalin/nardil combo, I hope it does the trick for you. Keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Anthony
