Does anyone out there take Celexa for Obsessiveness. I've always been slightly obsessive in my thinking but since February, when I went into anxious depression and started taking Celexa, it seems to have gotten a lot more intense. And I tend to have obsessive thoughts about the most upsetting and disturbing things whereas before I would obsess about everyday mundane things. The obsessive thoughts now are about things that are much more unrealistic and the small little piece of rational me knows that I'm being ridiculous. But I can't seem to stop or control it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Robyn - I've been taking Celexa for 6 weeks. Take 20 mg at bedtime. I'm taking it for depression, but my depression manifests as anxiety & obsessiveness. I'm feeling much better regarding both. I wonder what your doctor would say about increasing the dosage. I have no idea if that's a good idea or not. All I know is that it's certainly worked big-time for me. Hopefully someone else will give you some additional input.
If you want more details from me just ask.Take care, Kath

> > RobynRobyn, I take Effexor-XR for obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. There are a number of good medications for reducing obsessions (check out the site at www.ocfoundation.org/cof105a.htm, where there is an excellent article by Michael Jenike, MD, regarding the use of medications, incl. Celexa. I've tried Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, Serzone, and now Effexor-XR. Have heard though that Celexa is very good.

> RobynI have enough OCD symptoms that one of my doctors dx'ed me with it and I tried Luvox, but it made me anxious and insomniac. I have found that my OCD characteristics wax and wane with my deopressive symptoms, but every antidepressant I've ever tried has made me anxious and the extra anxiety has made the problem worse. When I was finally taken off of antidepressants entirely for the first time in years I found that I experienced mild antidepressant, or at least mood-brightening effects from the Neurontin that I was already taking, and even though my depression was still predominately intact I experienced a virtual halt in my OCD behaviors.

That's very interesting! Glad it's working for you.
