Topamax

Greetings and Salutations! I am a 31 year old newly single mother of one who is a bipolar II. I have know, but fought this diagnosis for the better part of fifteen years. I have had many problems with my medications, mood stabilizers in particular! I have just started on Topamax four days ago. So far, so good. The first night I had my first two 50mg tablets I got sleepy very quickly. When I awoke the next morning I felt great! Not sleepy or dopy or drugged. I didn't feel like it was an effort to stay awake, and I even had some energy! Seems like the first time in months.
The previous three mood stablizers were a nightmare. I gained weight, was really tired all the time. I stumbled into walls, I couldn't think, concentrate, or problem solve. I was VERY depressed. I had no drive or will to function. GEESH! I thought, if my choice is be stable, and be so tired I can't get out of bed, or be down, and UP sometimes, the drugs are just NOT FOR ME! Well, for now the Topamax seems to be doing its job. I may only add one 25mg tablet next week in the morning instead of two. I am very afraid of falling back into that haze of sleep, and depression that this medicine is supposed to help fix.
I have spent a lot of time going over these boards checking out what others have experienced with this med. If you want to share any other insights with me, please do! I want to learn all I can. Thanks a heap!!
