effexor + wellbutrin + trazadone?

Posted by Andre Allard on June 11, 2000, at 5:36:42

I am currentyly taking 300mg of effexor and 100mg of trazadone. I am lethargic and in an attempt to pep myself up I decided to practice a little psychopharmacology on my own. Six months ago, I was with a girl who was bipolar. She had a draw full of left over meds so I took a bottle of wellbutrin off her hands. Yesterday, I added 37.5mg of wellbutrin and noticed the difference withing an hour. I was more energized and it also improved my libido. My plan is to eventually work my way too 150mg of effexor, 150mg of wellbutrin and 100mg of trazadone. What do you guys think!

Andre - I think it is worth a shot. You may want to try to eventually get to 225mg of Effexor to get some of the NRI action, but play it by ear.

The trazodone at 100mg daily makes a good sleeping pill, but you really need to get to levels of 450mg daily (divided doses) for any real antidepressant action. Actually if you get to higher levels of Effexor and Wellbutrin, you may not need the trazodone (or be able to decrease the dose to 25mg or 50mg - make sure you stabilize on the other meds first; serotonergic side effects willing).

Also, don't let the early side effects of Wellbutrin fool you. Your body will adjust to that initial rush (I got a lot of work done in those first few days with it, too).

•Most important• Tell your doc about the Wellbutrin. It is no good to get to a working dose of Wellbutrin and then run out of pills. Telling your doc now, or better yet, making it sound like the Wellbutrin was his/her idea (sorry docs), will work better for you in the long run. By explaining after the fact, you may have a clash. Sorry for sounding like a pharmacist, but I have seen this more than once, with both pdocs and G.P.s.

My thoughts - Cam
