What is Guanfacine?

Posted by Kalib on June 2, 2000, at 7:50:00

What is Guanfacine and what is it used for? I've read about this medication on this website, however, the writer did not go into much detail. I'm currently looking for a suitable medication to augment my antidepressant (Serzone). I've used Ritalin in the past, as I also have ADD type symptoms, however, Ritalin tends to increase my anxiety related symptoms. Thank You! Dennis

Brand name: Tenex.

It is an antihypertensive, but I think it is used for ADHD, especially for the hyperactive/impulsive type. Not sure.

Yes. It's like clonidine. It helps people with ADHD who have problems with frustration tolerance, in particular (it can also help them to sleep better, a problem for people who take stimulants). I believe it can also be used for anxiety.

There is a very informative site that discusses the particulars of the drug at the following location:

Hope this helps.
