I've been taking Topomax for a month for mood stabilization. It's helped some. I've had some good reactions and some bad. I've lost 3 lbs which is good. I read some old feedback about it which suggested it was unsafe. Are any of you on it? Does it help? Is it safe?

Although I am not bipolar and have never taken Topomax, I have read some good things about it. It is usually chosen after several other mood stabilizers have not worked. Like lamictal, is has pretty much a benign side effect profile and is very safe. Since it is relatively new, it is not very popular yet. Good luck!
Five minutes ago, I was reading a document on bipolar disorder which stated that the average manic depressive looses 15 years of their life due to the illness. Just thought you might want to know that.

I am on topamax and feel pretty good about taking it. The side effects I'v experienced aren't so bad. All the information and research I've read on Topamax makes me feel pretty confident that I'm taking a medication that good for me with some mild side effects.

> Thanks, you guys. You make me feel better. I've lost another lb. and that makes me feel great. If it only stabilizes my moods too. I'm still somewhat depressed and have been on 60 mg of Prozac for about a year. Mood stabilizers are new to me. But I need them. Scary - taking meds. Scary - being suicidal.
