Knowing that AD's seem to cause more weight gain in most people opposed to weight loss, I was wondering if anyone has had success with excersise and healthy diet while taking them? I hear alot about how people still watched their food intake and excersied and still gained weight. Would like to hear from the ones who have had held their weight down and what they do to combat the weight gain. Or even hear from people who still gain weight no matter what they do. Thanks Gloria

I have lost about 12 lbs since joining Weight Watcher's about 11 weeks ago. When I started I was on Prozac, and have gone through Effexor and Wellbutrin trials since, and am now on Zoloft. Hopefully my downward trend will continue.

When I was 20, I started a vigorous exercise program. I would run for a half hour or so nearly every morning. I experienced occasional bouts of euphoria. I felt better than I ever had before. I remember seeing a book a few years ago about the exercise high effect. Its apparently quite effective as an antidepressant for many people. I also lost weight too. I was nearly light enough to get out of Vietnam by being too underweight after only a month.
My body just couldn't take it. I guess this puts a whole new twist on "poop out" 8>)

I gained about 80 lbs during the period when I was trying to find the right meds. In Feb I joined a gym and started watching my diet by lowering my carb intake. Since then I have been able to take off 20 lbs. It can be done but in my case I have to be pretty vigilant about what I do and eat.

hello Gloria,
I understand your concern about weight. Most of my life I've suffered from eating disorders (anorexia & binge eating), but I have been successful keeping the weight off.
I have been eating quite healthly for the past 3 years (no starving or binging), taking medications that cause weight gain (lithium & others). I believe I've controlled my weight not only with my diet, but mostly with my exercising. In general I walk a minimum of 1 hour a day. I also jog 3 times a week for 45 minutes.
I'm still not mentally 'healthy' enough to accept much fat on my body. I think when you're depressed, fat is even more depressing.
Good luck to you, Janice
