I have been on 45mg Nardil for 20 years. I have cut back over the last 15 days to 15 mg a day and want to cut it out completly in 8 more days. Will I have trouble de-toxing from Nardil. THANKS

Once the adrenergic augmentation wears off, you'll get a cholinergic rebound lasting for a couple weeks.
I would definitely taper no more than 15 mg/week -- and then 15 mg every other day for a couple weeks.
What do plan on replacing it with? I switched to Parnate about five years ago and find it superior because of the fewer side effects; although the tyramine reaction is FAR more noticeable.

> I started taking Nardil 1986. Many times through the years I tried to get off even with my Doctor's help. I would be ok for a week or should I say until it got completely out of my system then I would hit rock bottom once again. I've tried all new drugs but Nardil is the only one that works for me. To answer your question, you should not have any problem getting off but watch out, if it's the only drug that has helped you, you'll have to start completely over with all of the side effects when you first started. Good Luck.

I've Been on Nardil for 14 years. Coming off slowly is easy, after being off of it 14 days, you'll know it. I've done it 8 time in order to try other medications. Nardil seems to do well for me.

> Original question certainly answered by now...but for others reading: I took Nardil for 8 years 90mg/day. Decreased by one 15mg tab every 4 days. Did great afterwards. I was originally using it for mild depression but especially for panic attacks. I think I broke the "cycle" of attacks and so no side effects noted. 2 yrs later given birth control pills for bleeding. Within 7 days I was out of control & had to restart Nardil. MD said once hormones out of my system I would be fine, but that was 1.5 years ago and I'm still on it. Also, CAUTION, there is a 10% chance that Nardil will not work as well for you the second time you use it. No one is sure why this happens to some people. It's so normal to feel good and think you don't need it. If you feel ANY symptoms while coming off the med, it's because you NEED it biochemically (not an addiction). Don't continue discontinuing unless your MD tells you to and you are changing to another med. Jen RN
