is there anything to help or stop this. It's the BuSpar and I really don't want to go off it but my poor face hurts so bad from clenching my jaws. Most of the time I don't notice I'm doing this but when I get in bed at night it hurts so bad I can't get to sleep. Gloria

Seriously - i'm not kidding - the popular illegal drug ecstasy reportedly causes a sucking sensation, but I think it could be a jaw clenching thing. The solution at raves is to - yes, no kidding, check it out - suck a pacifier.
Hey, if the med is something you want to do, try one for a night or two. Might help you get in touch with your inner child, too.

You might also see your dentist about the sort of mouthguard used for night teeth grinding, but sports mouthguards are so much cheaper.
This topic keeps coming up. Does anyone have any experience with a muscle relaxant for this? What about something like a small dose of cogentin?
just tossing ideas out...

As an ex raver, (was huge in the UK in my teens) it's the "speed" that causes jaw clenching / teeth grinding. And most exctasy is cut with some sort of speed. The pacifiers do help the ginding, and thus cutting up of cheeks, but never really stopped the clenching!!
The mouth guards might help, but if you're clenching, I'd speak to your doc, and see if something else might help/
Good luck

> NikkiAs an old 60's hippie, I feel like a geezer now...and feel like warning people about the dangers of ecstasy (I've read that it causes permanent changes in serotonergic synapses). As someone who doesn't like "speed" in any form, I've never tried ecstasy and don't understand the attraction to it (always liked psychedelics myself, in the past). If you get the side effects you mention, I'd steer clear from ecstasy and ask your pdoc about things to remedy the depression (even now, when I think about going back to "illicit" psychedelics, which I would never do, it's usually when I feel empty and depressed). BTW, I'm not DEA or really conservative, even though I'm now a geezer!

Don't worry, Cindy, I never pegged you as a babblenarc! ;* )
About the pacifiers---thank you for explaining where the teen fad of wearing a pacifier on a string around the neck came from. It seems most hip fads originate in the drug subculture or prison subculture, doesn't it?
Detour---is this jaw-clenching phenomenon also caused by other drugs. I clench my jaws all the time. I don't know if it is from keeping my mouth closed at night, as I used a CPAP and must keep my mouth closed, or all the air will escape through it, or is it from serzone or effexor? Someone I know said he gets the jaw clenching and he is on Paxil. He is having a guard made by the dentist.
Detour 2---could botox injections help?
This is the end of the thread.
