All I want to do is sleep

I've been taking 75mg or effexor for 5 days now and I am so sleepy all the time. I sleep all night and then I want to sleep all day. Has anyone else been effected by this, if so will you please let me know, Thanks Terry

For me, effexor has the opposite effect, but I have definitely heard from people who feel sleepy on it. I would think it would be worse initially, and possibly lessen as you get used to it. Did you start at 75 mg? If so, it might have been too fast for you system. If you are to increase your dose in the future, ask your doc to write the scrips using smaller pills, like 37.5, so you can increase more gradually. Good luck and keep us posted about how you are doing.

Hi Terry~
Effexor XR made me profoundly sleepy, I never got above 37.5mgs. I cd. only hang in there for a couple of wks. before my doc and I decided I simply was not shaking off the 'I want to sleep AT LEAST 20 hrs. a day' side-effect.
I do recommend that if you shd. decide to stop the Effexor, that you do so with a slow taper.
How long have you been taking the EF.? Did u start at a lower dose and titrate up?

Zannah, I've been taking effexor for almost 3 weeks now.
I started on 37.5 for the first week. I'm supposed to check back with the doctor Wednesday and if its not better he's going to put me on Serzone. I really dread trying Serzone because I've heard alot about side effects. It helps to know that there are others that can sympathize. My familly they really try but there are times they get so frustrated with me. Thanks Terry
