My son takes Zoloft for depression, and to control his anxiety levels and obsessiveness. He has been on Prozac, Paxil and Xanax. The Prozac was successful but tended to wear off about every three months or so and we kept raising the dose. The Paxil didn't seem to work at all. The Xanax was a real disaster, and the Zoloft seems to have worked well and held up since last December. We think we are starting to see some deterioration though I think it is still working and I and his neurologist are reluctant to change anything at the moment.
My son is 8 yrs old and takes 100 mg of Zoloft, 50mg/2xday and 15mg Adderral/2xday. He has Asperger's Syndrome, a very high functioning Austic Spectrum disorder, in which depression, anxiety, obsessiveness, and attentional problems are all common comorbid conditions.
Don't know if this helps, but there are other web site out there that do deal with pediatric psychiatric disorders and could be of some help. I don't know any specific sites for depression, but the Web is a big place.
SSRI's are commonly prescribed for children, particularly prozac because it has less side effects than the other antidepressants.
Hope this helps,

> Withdrawal, or aggression are signs in a child. Children often don't have the vocabulary to express their sadness, but certainly any prolonged pattern of behavior changes would indicate something is up. Usually you have to clear physical problems first then look for the mental problems. With my son it was both withdrawal and aggression.
