The popular press (e.g. Consumer Reports) are starting to report studies suggesting that St. John's Wort can interfere with the pharmacological effects of a number of prescription medications (e.g. birthcontrol pills). These publications do not list the medications of concern and give no references or descriptions of the kinetics/mechanisms involved. I've searched the net and reviewed several psycopharm journals without success. Who has this information?

Hi Peter,I want to be perfectly honest, and admit up-front that I don't have any info directly related to your question...
And that what I do have to offer is purely conjecture, from a layman who is not terribly well schooled/trained in the specific field, nor even has any "personal experience" with "the pill".
I haven't even read anything to which I could refer you - this is purely a gut feeling on my part... but here it is, for whatever it's worth:
I don't think you should be placing as much confidence in "the pill" as a contraceptive, as you seem to imply... Once again - purely a gut feeling...
Peter, although you imply that you haven't become pregnant to date, I personallly suspect you wouldn't be pregnant even if "the pill" had never been invented...
(Sorry for wasting everyone's time, but once I got started on this, I couldn't seem to stop myself (ocd related?).)

James here....
As SJW is a drug too of course it interacts with other meds. There was a study mentioned on this list about SJW and other meds, published in The Lancet. The study had to do with AIDS meds, but really applies to non-AIDS persons too.
