I'd like some input on how those w/a generalized anxiety problem find the benefits of BuSpar. Right now I take Clonazapine, but it is an addictive drug. Thanks.

Carmen, I took Buspar about a year ago for anxiety and as best as I can remember I didn't like it. I took it for about 2 months. It really had bad sexual side effects for me and for a happily married woman, that's just no good! And paxil was the same way for me. Good luck to you! Ginny

Carmen,
I have tried Buspar, but had to discontinue due to dizziness before I was able to see any benefit. I have used this med with many patients who have done very well; but, like me, many discontinued due to initital dizziness - the dizziness usually will subside within 2-3 weeks, but it can get pretty bad in some folks. After reading Linda's message to you about Buspar I realized that I was basing my opinion about Buspar on Paxil only. I am sorry. I didn't like Buspar because of the dizziness also. I now remember that the dizziness was awful for me. The paxil was very similar in the way of dizziness and also had the sexual side effects. Sorry about that. It's been a year. I'll try to remember a little harder next time! Ginny

Thank you Ginny, Linda, and PL for your input. I will be seeing the Dr. next week and will be asking him. Have you guys heard of any good drugs that help w/generalized anxiety that are not habit forming? Thanks for your time in E-mailing. Carmen

Carmen, I have taken Xanax but as silly as it sounds and most people would probably disagree with me, I found it would give me a headache when it was wearing off. So my doctor prescribed clonazepam and it seems to work okay. But you know, I seem to remember him telling me that it IS habit forming and warning me to be very careful about taking it. So I am. I try to limit myself. Maybe that's why it works so well for me. I have panic attacks in the grocery store. I hate going there. Sometimes I feel like everyone is staring at me and I'm going to pass out. I feel like the blood is rushing to my head, I feel extremely hot. There was a time when my husband was there, I could hold his hand and I would be alright, but now, even that doesn't work, I just have to get out and get some fresh air. What do you take for that? Now that's a panic attack, right? Ginny
