I'd like to try to get off Prozac, though I have had very doog results for mild to moderate depression taking 20mg every other day. I am concerned about lack of knowledge of longterm effects, and I have been on Prozac for more than a year. I am interested in SAMe and 5-HTP. Has actual day to day experience with them been good; if so, how much should someone take; and can these (or should these) be taken together? Much thanks.

I took 100 mg daily of 5-HTP. It had a real effect when taken alone. But not so strong as classical AD. I don't know if you can take it with Prozac. But it is working on the same neurotransmitter 5 HT.

> SigoleneI've been taking 100 mg. of 5-HTP 3 times a day 20 minutes before each meal for the last 2 weeks. Seems to work well, and reduces appetite. Although my concentration is not as good as when on Effexor, otherwise I feel normal and am hoping my brain will kick in and start making it's own seretonin. A good book to read on the subject is "5-HTP The Natural Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity and Insomnia" by Michael Murray, N.D.
