Amanda - Could not find any reference to Lamictal causing hair loss or thinning in any reference. I have not heard of this in my pharmacy practice either, but we don't use Lamictal that often. Hope this helps. - Cam W.

I have seen hair thinning on Lamictal mentioned in either Dr Bob's Tips, Ivan Goldberg's Depression Central, or both...don't remember. But I have seen it. I think all these drugs have the potential to cause hair loss, whether it's stated in the side effect label or not. I take 50mg Lamictal and did notice hair in the shower. I never noticed that before. Not much, but enough to catch my eye and make me wonder. JohnL

Having been on and off Lamictal a few times, I am convinced that it is responsible for my experiencing some serious dandruff and dry patches around my nose and ears. I also seem to find more hair in my brush than I remember seeing before. These side-effects have not abated over time. I use a zinc based dandruff shampoo every day, and this seems to take care of both the dandruff and any hair-loss. I use Aveeno moisturizing lotion for my face and cortisone cream for my ears.
Both lithium and Depakote can cause some heavy-duty hair loss. But, like anything else, the word *can* should be emphasized.
