High blood pressure as a side effect

Posted by Paul Jay on February 8, 2000, at 10:18:44

The only medications I've felt any effect from so far were Dexedrine and Effexor. I was getting only a small effect from Effexor, but I was at the lowest dose; however I was put Wellbutrin rather than increase the dose because I have high blood pressure. Of course stimulants also can increase blood pressure. Descriptions of these medications I've read say this is only a possible effect, and usually isn't a problem. Is hypertention a valid reason to rule out these medicines without a trial?

James here....

If you can get regular BP checks I think you should try the meds. Both Effexor and Dexedrine are fast acting so you will have your answer quickly. Effexor did raise my BP (upper #) just a few points.
