How many of you are doctors?

Posted by Sue on February 3, 2000, at 20:37:24

Hi
I'm new to psycho-babble and was amazed at the knowledge of most of the posts here. Are you all doctors and just very well informed people with depression? or both? :)

I think very few are doctors. I'm not, anyway. Just a patient trying to get information and support.

And yes, there are a lot of folks who know a lot here. That is one of the reasons I love this place.

Welcome.

Hi Sue,
I wish a lot more doctors would show up here. But in their absence I have to admit there are some highly experienced and highly informed people here. I guess that's a result of the determination and persistence to get well. In my opinion many regulars here have more knowledge about depression and medications than most psychiatrists. My own psychiatrist even humbly admitted that himself. JohnL

I agree, it would be nice to have some more doctors here, but our combined efforts are like one giant consultation! I agreed to participate in a discussion the other day, kind of in conjunction with the study I was in, and the other participants seemed rather stunned, kept saying "You are remarkably well informed" I told them, that's what happens when you don't leave the house for six months and have access to the internet...

There IS an amazing amount of knowledge and compassion and advice on this site. I consider it my Group Therapy. Picking up on stuff that has been written about has given me a lot of ammunition to take back to my doc. Group Support is such a good thing. Sharing experiences is the best medicine. Living through this gives us experience not all doctors can claim. JohnL, especially, thanks for your good stuff!

If I could, I would award honorary docorate degrees to several people on this board. I majored in psychology, and I get left behind in the discussions of how the brain works in all this sometimes. I love it here, but think I spend way too much time here. I end up going to bed at like 2:00am on work nights when I have to get up by 7:00. I also think focusing too much on my problems isn't so healthy. I need to start building on my strengths.
